Testimonials

In my experience it is important when thinking about coming to therapy to know a bit more about the therapist from others that have used their services. I have asked some of my previous clients if they would mind sharing their experiences of therapy with me and below you will find brief accounts of their experiences that I hope you find helpful in helping you make a decision about coming to see me. - Jane

"I can’t thank Jane enough for her support over the past few months. I have been suffering with anxiety and depression, to the point where I was struggling to carry out daily tasks, work and social activities. Having CBT with Jane has been a huge turning point. She has been there as a therapist and as a friend and has shown immense belief in me when I felt my lowest. I have learnt so much from our sessions and she has taught me how to become my own therapist and to use these tools and thinking processes independently. I am in such a brighter place now and am very grateful for all your help Jane. Thank you."

"Jane has helped me enormously with my anxiety and obsessive thinking. When I first met with Jane I was scared and frightened by how quickly I had seemed to have gone from feeling absolutely fine to being unable to be on my own for more than an hour. I was anxious and feeling guilty and troubled by the types of thoughts I was experiencing. I was nervous in our first session but Jane made me feel at ease instantly and I felt completely comfortable opening up to her. Throughout our sessions Jane was always welcoming, sensitive, caring, supportive, and always on my side. I was provided with really useful information which helped me to understand and gain insight into the problems I was experiencing as well as powerful techniques and tools as part of CBT to decrease my levels of anxiety. I am so thankful to Jane for everything she has taught me and her overwhelming kindness. I cannot recommend her enough!"

"My son has been seeing jane for help with anxiety and the change in him after only a few sessions is remarkable. With an increased insight into development and maintenance of his experience of anxiety and equipped which strategies and deeper understanding he is starting to get his life back on track and I wish we had tried CBT sooner. We are delighted with his progress."

"I started seeing Jane as I have been suffering from anxiety due to bullying at school for several years. After only 5 sessions I am starting to feel much better and more optimistic about my future. I am approaching new things gradually and gaining confidence and belief in myself. I find it very easy to talk with Jane and she takes things at a pace I am comfortable with.

The explanations Jane provides of the origins, development and maintenance of my own experience of anxiety is understandable and makes sense to me. This is done in an accessible way and she provides information for me to read to develop my insight which is helpful.

Jane is encouraging and supportive and seems to understand how hard it can be to approach things that are difficult. The techniques and strategies I have learnt have helped me to do things I didn't think were possible as I felt stuck. It's not just the strategies that help it's the psychological understanding of how anxiety (fight/flight) system is activated by my thoughts and interpretations of situations that is making the difference."

"Jane was a fantastic support to our family at a time in our lives when everything felt really quite desperate. Our son was literally unable to cope with anything: school, friends, sleep, life in general. Not only was his life falling apart but the whole family was struggling too. Through our therapy sessions we felt guided and supported by Jane. We worked through everything together as a team, facing what seemed like the impossible at times! Thanks to Jane we have got our son back, it took time and effort but we literally couldn't have done it without Jane's help."

"I realised I was suffering with depression in December 2012, after being signed off from work and attempting to get help via the NHS (8 month waiting list!) It was recommended that I seek help from Jane. From the very first CBT treatment session I knew I had made the right decision. Jane was always calm, collected and ultimately a reassuring presence in our sessions. She helped me find my own path out of the malaise I was stuck in and helped me to understand the ways in which my thoughts were influencing my feelings and the influence on my behavioural responses.

Jane helped me to develop insight and understanding of how my problems had developed and also to recognise some of the factors that were maintaining patterns of thinking and ways of dealing with things.

Jane helped me to develop cognitive strategies such as questioning /challenging my thinking and looking at situations from different perspectives. I developed Cbt strategies and tools to deal with things that were keeping me stuck, lowering my moods and increasing sense of hopelessness. My confidence and self esteem improved and therapy helped in a positive way. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jane and hope she Keeps doing what shes doing! "

"What would I have done without Jane! When I booked an appointment to see Jane, I was lacking in self-esteem, virtually friendless, insecure in the workplace and unable to move beyond what certain people had done in the past. After a combination of CBT and EMDR, I can honestly say I'm a reformed individual. I've changed my thought patterns and things just don't seem as harsh or depressing as what they were. Jane is a good listener and I would recommend her to anyone wanting to resolve their issues."

"Jane was welcoming and kind. Always made me feel valued-she appeared genuinely interested in what I had to say. We worked on set things together in order for me to gain a better understanding of areas I was struggling with. I found this method of working particularly helpful. She was professional and was very skilled in CBT, what she was doing which in turn made me feel confident in trusting her. I would definitely recommend her."

"A few months ago I was in a very different place .I had lost my way a bit or maybe even a lot with my children. I didn't recognize myself anymore, as I seemed to spend a lot of time in a confrontational defensive position. I was waking up feeling anxious as to how I was going to deal with whatever they threw at me that day. There seemed to be a huge lack of respect for me and no amount of shouting improved matters so I got lower and lower and couldn't see the joy in anything. Upon the advice of my GP I went to see Jane. She is a good listener and non judgmental. My first session I was talking 10 to the dozen spewing all my angst out which felt good. The next session I was calmer and Jane discussed strategies I should implement to regain control as a parent, I was surprised by how quickly my children responded to these new measures which was very gratifying. From there my next couple of sessions targeted more specific problems, again, which proved invaluable when they were put into practice. Overall the whole experience was cathartic and positive and I am so glad I had Jane's guiding light in what had become a very dark time. Thank you for helping me find the way back Jane."

"During the last few weeks of the summer term our daughter began to have panic attacks going into school. It transpired that she had a fear of feeling or being sick for several weeks after being taught in an extremely hot classroom. She was also experiencing some bullying issues. Her confidence had been shattered and she found it hard to be around large groups of people.

As soon as Jane met our daughter she made a connection with her immediately. She had a wonderful way of talking to her and a trust was formed between them very quickly. Jane taught our daughter (and her parents!) many 'coping' techniques, the most effective being cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) amongst many others. We discuss these techniques daily to remind our daughter how to cope with any difficult situations she may have to face. She is now happily back in school and her confidence is growing by the day. Jane's positivity and relaxed approach during each session was just what we needed."

"I never knew what CBT was. When I started I was desperate and in a very sorry state, I had nothing to lose, and in a few weeks Jane managed to turn my head around for me and day by day I started to be able to be in control of myself again. I have learned a lot that helps me to carry on and in difficult situations I can clearly think what would be the right approach to take. Thank you Jane, you gave me my life back'."

"We approached Jane for help with our 12 year old daughter who had been ill with ME for some two and a half years. As a result of being ill and unable to attend school full time, she was experiencing extreme anxiety and emotional issues. Jane took time to fact find thoroughly before meeting our daughter. More time was spent building rapport and trust with her, before very carefully introducing CBT. Our daughter has been seeing Jane now most weeks for the last four months – we knew it would be a long process – but we have seen some significant changes. Jane's approach is always calm, measured and reassuring. We are particularly pleased with the way in which Jane keeps in contact with us between sessions. With a seven month waiting list on the NHS for similar treatment, we are so relieved that we found Jane and she is able to help."

"After years of our son being bullied we decided to give CBT a try. A Nutritional Therapist we had been seeing recommended Jane Holmes. Our son bonded very quickly with Jane and we could see a big improvement in him. She saw our son, my husband and myself to begin with and then sessions with our son on his own. I'm sure he opened up to her in sessions although certain things were kept confidential which we as parents respected.

Jane gave our son coping strategies on how to avoid conflicts for example. He continues to looks at his phone and he is referring to them and sometimes we even get apologies form him. He became more confident and has overcome a lot of problems with Jane's help and our guidance. I would certainly recommend trying CBT rather than struggling on your own."

"Having CBT sessions with Jane has given me the tools and confidence I need to cope better and with my anxiety related difficulties. Jane explains the science and reasons behind my feelings using words I understand and gives me relevant information to read away from the sessions. CBT with Jane has helped make daily life easier. "

"I have found CBT with Jane the most effective treatment for depression/low self-esteem. The focus is to find the cause and then provide you with an approach/tool kit to address the difficulties experienced in the here and now. Finding the cause wasn't the easiest journey but a necessary one. Imagine getting rid of a weed it must be taken out at the root to prevent regrowth subsequent insight and understanding is developed alongside strategies to manage the here and now."
